NLP Coaching: An Evidence-Based Approach for Coaches, Leaders and Individuals
Dr Susie Linder-Pelz
Australia Day

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is believed by many to be a powerful set of tools for facilitating change and enhancing performance. Yet, despite the success stories and proliferation of courses, there is still much skepticism about the validity and effectiveness of NLP. In NLP Coaching Susie Linder-Pelz brings, for the first time, an evidence-based perspective to this coaching methodology. She explains how and where NLP coaching is used, examines its links to established principles and practices, and questions aspects of NLP where the empirical evidence is missing. She reviews recent developments in NLP-based coaching practice and proposes a specific research agenda that will move NLP coaching towards an evidence-based approach. NLP Coaching provides numerous case studies and real-life examples which show how NLP assists personal, professional, team, leadership and organisational development. The book includes contributions from leaders in the field: Andrew Bryant, Michelle Duval, Joseph O'Connor, Paul Tosey and Lisa Wake, with a forward by Dr Angus McLeod.

Review

"Bravo, Dr. Susie Linder Pelz, on the publication of your latest book. You reveal such mastery of both your subject and the art of writing. I feel your authorial voice firmly at the helm: guiding, leading into, proposing, reflecting and integrating sources. From the opening passages of your book, you offer the reader an open and inquiring space to journey with you as you explore, discuss and raise questions about the field of NLP: its origins, development, similiarities and differences to other coaching approaches, and its linkages to related fields of psychology, neurobiology, neurolinguistics. Through your engaged writing, inclusion of other voices from the field, use of endnotes and references, you have provided a rich reference resource . You provide a remarkably impressive field of knowledge, as well as summarise and clarify critical issues within the field that can serve as a clarion call for further investigation and research. You offer practical tools for coaches, for coaching trainers, for practioners and researchers to access information sources and, to incorporate within professional and personal practice, strategies and processes for self-discernment, balance, self-reflection and critical evaluation. I found it to be a tour-de-force and it will retain a well-prized position on my bookshelf. I imagine it will become an essential resource for anyone interested in the coaching world; its current publication serves as a well-earned and timely statement of the richness and maturity of the NLP field."
